A Victorian man who flouted border restrictions by kayaking into South Australia has been sentenced.
Police were notified on Monday that a man was believed to have entered the state without the required essential travel status.
Investigations revealed he arrived by kayaking on the Glenelg River, which flows between the two states.
He was arrested for failing to comply with directions, refused bail and appeared in court the following day.
The man was sentenced to nine days imprisonment, but the term was wholly suspended on a good behaviour bond and he has now returned to Victoria.
It comes after another man was last week sentenced for sneaking into the state as a stowaway aboard a freight train.
The 41-year-old boarded the train at Dimboola, Victoria, and was arrested when it arrived in Adelaide on October 21.
The Adelaide Magistrates Court heard he is currently a train driver’s assistant, but in training to become a driver.
The purpose of his trip was to visit the South Australian depot, the court heard.
The man, who spent two weeks behind bars, was convicted and released without further penalty.
